Kingsley Deluxe 50
The Kingsley Deluxe 50 is a 50W class AB amplifier
that produces sounds similar to the Deluxe 30 but with the extra
headroom and kick that some players require.
The pre-amplifier features the same controls as
the Deluxe 30 (gain, volume, treble, middle, bass, reverb and master
tone controls and a bright switch), but the circuitry is voiced
to better compliment the 50W class AB output section.
The output section uses 2 EL34s and features a triode/pentode
switch to cut the power by approximately 1/2 and to give a softer,
mellower response when in triode mode. The amplifer will also accept
6L6s and KT66s for classic American type sounds.
Plugging into input 2 produces a great clean tone,
from percussive, bright and airy to rich and mellow. The tone controls
are very effective and musical, while never adding any harshness
or un-useable frequencies. While this input does use the gain control,
its purpose is not to add distortion to the pre-amp but rather to
tailor the gain of the first tube stage for different output guitars,
so as to achieve maximum clean output when desired. Turning up the
gain and volume controls takes you into touch-sensitive power tube
compression which is great for on the edge blues and rock tones.
Plugging into input 1 adds an extra gain stage to
the pre-amp and increases the overdrive amount available. This input
is also the brighter of the two and when combined with some volume
from the power amp produces great overdrive, from slightly broken
up bluesy tones to heavier, sustaining lead tones, rich in harmonic
overtones.
